Underground Power Plants
Self-Contained Underground Power Plants are power and support modules that are separate from the living areas. Some have underground connections to the living areas others are free-standing. The free standing SCUPP units do not require NBC filtered(breathing)air but they can not be serviced in an NBC environment without putting the shelterist servicing the generator at risk. Support modules isolate generator and fan noise, often have decontamination facilities, and are a logical location for workshops and appliances. Although all the units show multiple generators only one generator at at time provides power and is sized to meet the demand. The other generators are spares.
